The American Federation of Arts is seeking a Curatorial Associate to join its exhibition team.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate curatorial aspects of select exhibitions
- Review and edit: proposals, checklists, marketing materials and educational didactics in consultation with Curator and Guest Curator
- Review and edit exhibition catalogue text as needed
- Draft, negotiate, and execute guest curator and author contracts
- Update and monitor exhibition budget
- Work with Curator and Guest Curator on developing list of prospective museums for exhibition tours
- Work with Registration Department on logistics relating to exhibition tour
- Liaise with curatorial staff at presenting museums, and respond to issues related to content of exhibition and installation
- Assist with administrative tasks such as; drafting correspondence, creating and tracking timelines, updating calendars, and responding to queries
- Input, edit and update various lists and forms in the exhibitions database (checklists, lender lists, etc.)
- Initiate and complete documentation related to loan negotiation
- Secure rights and reproduction permissions and other materials for exhibition publications and educational materials
- Assist in research for exhibitions as requested
- Assist with content of ArtViews panel series
- Participate in Exhibitions Department Meetings and other staff meetings as required
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Art History or similar field from accredited educational institution required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a museum setting either in the Education or Curatorial areas
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and handle many tasks simultaneously
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Filemaker (or other database management software), PowerPoint
- Keen attention to detail
